Our time in your country was fantastic and mesmerizing. The kind people from your team looked after us so well, from our initial arrival at KTM airport to the 5-day Poon Hill Trek to the Chitwan jungle safari to the cultural and historical immersion of the Kathmandu city and valley areas. Such a great blend of activities for a family to physically challenge and savour intellectually and culturally.

My wife and I were mad to attempt this with our 7 and 11-year-old boys, and I thought our 3-week family exploration of Vietnam 2 years ago would not be surpassed; all misplaced feelings. But, instead, this was superb, and I would highly recommend to families your tailored individual packages; guided and assisted when we wanted, left alone to ourselves when we desired. Also, changes to what we wanted to do in Nepal were easily accommodated as my children’s energy surged and ebbed.

Of particular note, I would like to highlight the following individuals from your team:

Basu: Our guide on the 5-day Ghorepani – Poon Hill – Ghandruk trek. He was outstanding. So understanding of our needs and capabilities, so engaging with my little boys during the trek days and in the tea houses in the evening (card games are now addictive with the boys), and I enjoyed long talks with him over a few glasses of Roksy (my spelling!). We were all very sad to say goodbye to him when we departed from each other in Pokhara, and my boys want an e-mail from him when he can! I highly recommend Basu as a perfect guide for families trekking with younger children. He is a superb man who will seek out the best food, accommodation and service for you; whilst also being great fun to be around on the long trek days and socializing at night.

Mr Thapa: Our guide in Kathmandu when we went to Durbar Square, Patan, Bhaktapur, Nagarkot etc. He was such a knowledgeable, intelligent and articulate man. We learned much from him about Nepali history, culture, Hinduism and Buddhism. I especially enjoyed our chats about the challenges facing Nepal in the era of globalization.

I would be grateful if you could thank all those who assisted in our visit to Nepal and pass my comments above directly to Basu and Thapa.

In the future, we would like to return to Nepal when the boys are a little older, and we can attempt an even more challenging trek. ABC, the Annapurna Circuit Trek or Everest Base Camp may be options when the boys are a little older and stronger.

One comment that might help you improve your services in future.

I suggest checking with the Clients regarding their physical shape when planning the treks. In our case, we could easily walk 3-4 hours more each day and save enough time to deviate to Tilicho lake, for example.
Otherwise, as said above, everything was excellent.

I will plan another trip to Nepal in the future and will naturally apply to you to help organise it.

Thank you to Bhairam for overseeing our trip so efficiently and courteously. Everything went very smoothly, even when we changed our plans slightly.

Chhabi, our guide, was a real star and was a great companion on our trek. He ensured we had everything we needed – and got us to the top of Thorung-la without a hitch!

Arjun, our porter, was also brilliant – a multitalented porter cum guide cum cook.

The Annapurna Circuit trek was an absolute joy. We had trekked to Muktinath over 20 years ago, but this was our first time on the Manang side, and we loved it – the views were sensational, and the villages and countryside were a delight. The road is coming, so I suggest people see it before the impact is too great.

The road on the Jomsom side has harmed the trekking experience, but new trails are being opened that avoid the road, so I recommend you give yourself enough time to explore these (see the book by Andreas de Ruiter and Prem Rai about the new NATT trails).

After Kagbeni (which you should visit), we decided to take transport to Tatopani to save time and avoid trekking on the road.

Ghorepani and the route to Tadapani and Ghandruk are road free and stunning (if a little ‘crowded’ when we were there in March).

I recommend Nepal Hiking to anyone interested in trekking, and we will be back!

Thank you so much for organizing the most wonderful trek in the world!
We had the best time, thanks to our thoughtful, kind, professional and funny guide, Narayan, and our porter, Kapil, who was just as funny, lively, professional and a joy to be around. Those two made our trek an experience we’ll never forget. Thanks to them, we can (in the words of Michal Jackson) say, “A.B.C, it’s easy as 1 2 3”. Namely, we climbed all the stairs from Birethanti to Annapurna Base Camp. On the way, we saw the most breathtaking sunrises and magnificent mountains we’ve ever seen.

One might believe that at least once during a one-and-a-half-week-long trek, you’ll get sick of walking, tired of your company, and longing for privacy – but we never did! The reason? We had too much fun dancing, singing, playing cards, talking and taking in the stunning view of the Himalayas.

Also, I (Sigrun) would like to offer a special thank you to Narayan for organizing the best birthday party ever! How many people can say they celebrated their 23rd birthday in a lodge, dancing disco with a random mix of strangers, after eating a specially made chicken curry and getting a cake with 23 candles? It was the best and showed what an incredible caring guide we had!

I guess our praises could go on forever. But, as my boss told me the other day, “you’re glowing when you’re talking about Nepal”. No wonder, since I’m absolutely in love with the country. I hope to do another trek with our fabulous duo, Narayan and Kapil, someday. But, for now, we’ll live on the memories of the greatest trek of our lives, thanks to Nepal Hiking for arranging it, and special thanks to Narayan and Kapil for making it more than we could.

First of all, I want to say thank you very much to Tilak, our guide Lok and our porter Raj for their marvellous job. Nepal Hiking perfectly organised the Gokyo Lake – Chola Pass – Everest Base Camp Trek. The support of our guide and porter on the trek was perfect.

The trip was one of the best I have ever done, and my childhood dreams came true. I walked on the same steps as all the heroes like Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. With the help and assistance of your team, I reached all targets, such as Gokyo Lake, Gokyo Ri and Cho La Pass, Everest Base Camp and Kalapathar. I guess there is nowhere in the world a better scenery than here. To see “the top of the world” so close was gorgeous and unbelievable.

Ultimately, I thought I had done everything before another highlight started. I couldn’t get my return flight from Lukla to Kathmandu because of bad weather conditions. So I decided to walk down to Jiri in 4 days with our guide Lok. It was the hardest thing I had done so far, but eventually, it was one of the most important conversation topics. The landscape was also beautiful, and I could enjoy much more of a true Nepal. Here you can see the real life of the local people. One thing I would change is to do it in 6 days instead of 4!!!

Hope all is well in Nepal and your business is going o.k. We have been on a trek to ABC (Annapurna Base Camp) with Ram and Babu from Sep. 29 to Oct. 11, 2003. Unfortunately, since we returned to KTM very late the day before we flew back to Germany, there was no chance to visit you in your office in Kathmandu. However, we just wanted to give brief feedback regarding our trek.

First, Ram and Babu have been fantastic and cared for us. We had a wonderful time trekking with both of them. Everything went smoothly and without any problems. Instead of starting the trek in Phedi, Ram suggested starting in Naya Pul. We discussed that with him, and he convinced us that the way up from Naya Pul would be a bit easier and not as steep. Since he knows the area well, we trusted his judgment, which was a good decision.

The climb to Hille on the first day was rather easy and a good start to loosen up our legs after sitting in planes and buses for many hours during the last few days. We then hiked on to Ghorepani, where we encountered the Maoists. Ram handled the situation well, and we had no problems with them. On the third day, we trekked to Tadapani, and on the fourth day, we made it to Chhomorung.

Baerbel and I believe this was a better way up because it gave us extra nights at a high altitude to get used to the altitude and prepare for the further hike up to ABC. We would support recommending this way to other clients of your agency, particularly because we went back over Phedi and then realized how steep the trail is. However, we do not think it is good to do on the first day of the trek.

Ram and Babu never rushed, and we had a very relaxing time. We took enough rest during the day and never felt too exhausted at the end of the day. Ram organized everything from food to drinks, and we did not have to do anything but enjoy the trek. His English is very good, and he explained and pointed out many interesting things about Nepali people and the country. He seemed very knowledgeable and never lost his patience despite all our questions. Babu also speaks reasonable English, and both tried to teach us some Nepali. However, I am afraid we failed miserably trying to pronounce the words correctly. It always made us all laugh a lot, though.

We have been truly lucky to have Ram as our guide, and also Babu added a lot to this great experience. We already have and will continue recommending your agency to all our friends. Most hike a lot, and maybe they plan a trip to Nepal soon. In that case, your agency will be their first point of contact since you seem to have very friendly and reliable people like Ram and Babu working for you.

Please also give them our best wishes and regards if you speak to them again. We believe they are currently trekking in the Everest region.

Information and advice were invaluable. Ram has local knowledge of the area, awareness of Western food requirements and potential difficulties, encouragement at times, and guidance for local customs and expectations.

Friendly, helpful and unobtrusive:

Our guide and porters were friendly at all times and helpful. They were never intrusive or pushy. It was always done gently and carefully if we needed to be hurried along (e.g. ordering meals).

We were particularly grateful for your company’s “airport to airport” service, the protection and advice regarding touts at the airport, and the welcome. 

In addition, when we needed a solution to a problem, you provided it quickly and without fuss (for example, when we left our passes in Kathmandu and were in Pokhara).

It was wonderful not to have to organise a thing from the moment we arrived until we left.

We were also very pleased that your company ensures that your guides and porters have appropriate clothing and are well looked after during the trek.

The first time I saw Tilak at the airport, I knew I had made the right decision. Although he was not our eventual tour guide, I trusted his sincerity and how he welcomed us. So, my sister and I had an enjoyable adventure in Chitwan during Poon Hill trekking with his professional and organised trekking.

Of course, I have to thank our tour guides especially. The trekking was a wonderful experience, and Surya and Ramesh did a good job and were very helpful. They made the trekking very interesting and full of fun. They both were responsible for doing their part. My trek was beautiful. I had one of the best times of my life during the trek. Can’t thank Basu enough for making my trip so comfortable and enjoyable. Like I told Basu, I was sure I would not be able to make it beyond 2-3 days as I did not consider myself very fit, but surprisingly I made it almost without any difficulty and enjoyed my way right till the end. The rafting trip was also an experience I would remember.

I am Ron, and I was with the Cook party (from the UK) that took the Gokyo Lake Trek from 12th April to 26th April 2006. The food and entertainment at the Priest House restaurant were excellent and enjoyable; I thank you for providing that opportunity.

However, that is not the only reason I am writing this letter: I wish to thank ‘Nepal Hiking Pvt. Ltd.’ as a whole for making our journey an enjoyable, worry-free experience. In particular, Ganga was the perfect guide, and I would not hesitate to go on another journey with him. I want to return to Nepal and use his services again next year. His personality, extensive knowledge and professionalism make him a likeable character. I further commend Ganga on his judgment and decision-making during the trek.

Before I embarked on this journey, the news reports about Nepal made it appear not a place to go. If we had taken note of the news media reports, we would have missed this opportunity to visit Nepal. Yes, there is a military presence, but only a handful of ‘checkpoints’ are in the mountains. They certainly did not interfere with travellers and were very pleasant and friendly. The whole time I was in Nepal, I felt very safe.

Hi Tilak,
I have been home for about a week now. Every day I think about my great time on the Classic Everest Trek. Before arriving in Kathmandu, I wondered whether I had taken on something too much. However, once your staff picked me up at the airport and you met me at the hotel, you put my mind at ease. From the first day, I was treated with respect. You answered all my questions and fulfilled all my needs.

Once on the trail, my safety and health were of primary importance to my guide Bhim and my porter Narayan. Every morning they asked how I felt, if I had a headache and how I slept. They said, ‘ If you’re happy, we’re happy.”

Bhim was a wealth of knowledge. Any questions I had about the people, animals, birds, plants, mountains, politics, or whatever, Bhim usually had an answer, and he was also eager to hear about my part of the world. However, Narayan’s greatest asset was his strength. He easily carried my pack up and down the hills every day for 22 days, sometimes carrying all my gear, leaving me with nothing to do but enjoy the day.

I would not hesitate to recommend these two employees to anyone wishing for a fantastic vacation in Nepal.

We want to write a short note to thank you for organizing our trip and encouraging other travellers to Nepal to use Nepal Hiking Agency. We did the Everest Base Camp trek but only had 15 days due to work commitments – Mr Tilak set out a personalized schedule for us which allowed us to take in all of the sights, reach Base Camp and get back safely. But not all of our flight was cancelled from Sydney, which lost us a day of our trip. When we were stressed and fearing that our tight time frame would jeopardize our trip, Mr Tilak was fantastic. He reorganized everything (airport pickup, hotel in Kathmandu, rearranged flight to Lukla, and changed the trekking schedule and accommodation).

For those coming to Nepal for the first time, like me, you may consider doing it yourself. My experience with Nepal Hiking Agency over the last few weeks is that leaving this to the experts is better. Trying to get flights to and from Lukla, understanding weather conditions, understanding your health, forecasting your progress etc., is all time and energy-consuming. In my opinion, save your energy for trekking. These guys understand the local infrastructure and how to get things done.

We were guided by Basu, a guy we now consider a friend. His insights into the area, the landscape, and the people were great-mind. He has been doing this for 20 years and is an expert guide. We were a bit tired as we approached Base camp, but he had great advice on altitude sickness prevention, and when one of us had a bad night (fever) – it was Basu who took charge, and we were able to proceed (if left to our own devices we would have lost a lot of time and perhaps even stopped). He’s also a great card player, and we spent most nights playing (partners). He gave us flexibility in our trip – so we could stop when we were tired or hungry or keep going if we weren’t. We ate in the best places, and there was always plenty. He set a good pace; because of this, we could reach all of our goals in the time we had and have a good chat.
We also met other travellers (from Canada and Portugal) who were with Nepal Hiking and had a ball. We usually met at different times and stayed in the same places. Their guides (Ram and Hari) and porters were also well organized, so there was a real feeling of being part of a bigger group – even though there were only three of us. In such an awesome country, it’s good to have that kind of peace of mind.
I had never been to Nepal before or had indeed done any trekking. I can honestly say that this was the best holiday ever and that it was made better by Nepal Hiking Agency. Their guides, porters, accommodation and food were great. We were also treated to two weeks of blue skies and sunshine, which made a beautiful place even better. The highlight of our trip was probably the Chukkung Valley, with magnificent views of Amadablam, Makalu, Island Peak and the world’s roof. Base Camp was an exquisite sense of achievement, but the trip as a whole will live in the memory forever for the generosity and hospitality of our hosts.

I enjoyed walking your Nepalese flat (up and down the hillside) and experiencing your culture. When I left for the trek, I was concerned about my ability to achieve my goal of reaching Gokyo Ri. All my fears were unfounded, and the one thing that prevented me from achieving my goal was the snowfall at Namche Bazaar on our acclimatisation day and the flight delay to Lukla. When it became clear that we would not reach Gokyo in time, Bhimsen allowed me to alter our plans and still achieve a dream of seeing Mount Everest up close. My sense of achievement is still as strong one month after my return, and I would recommend you to others thinking of trekking in Nepal.

The accommodation was excellent in both Kathmandu and on the trek. I also found the guest house accommodation to be excellent at all times. I also appreciated the care Ashok and Bhimsen gave me on the trek. I, too, feel like they have become my friends and will think of them often.
I am a mature lady travelling independently and believe the arrangements you made throughout my trip were just first class.

I just wanted to thank you and your wonderful staff for my incredible trip to Gokyo Ri, Chola Pass, Kalapathar, and Everest Base Camp. It was the best trip of my life. In the following, my father, brother, and I would like to give you some feedback about our trip.
Firstly, we would like to thank our trekking guide, Hari. He was always very friendly, helpful, and caring. Even though we had lost 2 days in Kathmandu due to bad weather, we could still make our trip (including all the items on the itinerary!). That was only possible because Hari organised everything very well. Thank you very much, Hari! He adapted perfectly to our speed, and we never were in a hurry. We had a lot of time to take many photos (something very important to us). If there was a day we didn’t feel so well, he even carried our backpacks. We think that’s a very special service!

Besides showing us the mountains, Hari also told us about Nepal’s culture and people. He knows a lot about history, different customs, and religions, and listening to him was always very interesting. Hari also told us about his family, so we got a good impression of how a normal Nepali family lives and what life is like in Nepal. That was very interesting because information like that is hard to find in a guided book.

The tea houses were always good. If there were a lower and a higher-class tea house, Hari would always pick the higher-class one.

After spending 18 days with Hari, he was not only our guide anymore; he has become our friend, and we are sure we’ll keep in touch with him.

We also want to thank our porters, Gopi and Kasi. They were always very friendly and helpful, and they never complained about carrying our (too) heavy bags. They were always smiling. Thanks a lot for that!
Secondly, white water rafting was a new and good experience. The water of the Trisuli River was a refreshing contrast to the mountains.

Thirdly, we had a very good time at Chitwan National Park. The Jungle Island Resort is in a great location! The jungle walks were exciting, and riding on an elephant was a great experience. Don’t forget the elephant bathing! We came very close to a Rhino, something we would have never expected to see. Our jungle guides were always nice and willing to answer our questions about the different animals and plants.

Altogether, we are very happy that we chose Nepal Hiking. Everything was perfectly organised, and we never felt worried or left alone.

The hotel you picked for us (Hotel de l’Annapurna) was a great choice. It’s a very nice hotel, and its downtown Kathmandu location is perfect for sightseeing or shopping. The guided sightseeing tour through Kathmandu on the first day was very interesting, too. Thanks a lot to our guide Saroj Chitrakar who was very friendly and knowledgeable!

Last but not least, we would like to thank you, Tilak, for managing our big problems with our international flights. Even though Nepal Hiking had nothing to do with our international flights because we had booked them through a German travel agency, you helped us to fix this problem caused by our German travel agency. Without you, we would have been completely lost, and we would probably still be in Kathmandu, waiting and hoping for a flight back home to Germany. That shows that Nepal Hiking cares about its clients and that its standard of service is very high. In the past, we used German travel companies for organising trekking trips worldwide. Nepal Hiking’s standard of service is at least equal to theirs or even higher. That’s why we can recommend Nepal Hiking for holidays in Nepal, whether trekking, sightseeing, or going to the jungle.

We’ve been home now for a week. So I should write on behalf of my colleagues to express our thanks for the Annapurna Trek. After our first ‘macho’ day, Bikesh taught us to walk uphill in the mountains, ensuring we would have enough extra energy to enjoy the magnificent scenery and company.

Richard is still in plaster (he had to do further manipulative work on his return) but expects to be fit again in three weeks.

Thank you very much for your excellent choice. Hari was, without a doubt, the best individual you could have picked for our group. I hope all is well in Kathmandu and beyond. I have been promising to do this for a year and have not gotten around to it. But please feel free to include this as a testimonial on your website:

My wife and I booked a trip from Jiri to Everest Base Camp (November 6 – December 5) through Nepal Hiking. We could not have been more impressed with the excellent service we received. From our arrival at Kathmandu airport, we were treated like visiting dignitaries and made to feel special. When the hard work began, our guide Bhim proved knowledgeable and friendly, with a great sense of humour. Likewise, our porter, Subarna, was a high-strength, sharp wit and consummate card player. Without these two gentlemen, the trip would not have been possible, and they both worked so hard on the trek and during the evenings to ensure we had the time of our lives.

If anybody reading this is remotely worried about altitude sickness or the effects of such a potentially arduous trek upon the body, I suggest you don’t be! Our guide was an expert at pointing out weaknesses, checking how we felt and helping us take rests or push on harder as we wished. Then, we had to pass around the chocolate, take pictures and enjoy the scenery. I would also heartily recommend taking the extra time off work and doing the long trek from Jiri. Not only is this a good way of acclimatising to the higher altitude and strengthening, but the countryside is so beautiful and much quieter than from Lukla and above, and the people are so friendly.

If you have time and energy after your trek, a good way to finish is the Royal Chitwan park, which can also be organised through Nepal Hiking and is a fun way to see tigers, rhinos and a diverse range of birds in beautiful wetland countryside.

Back in the confines of my office, looking over London on a cold Tuesday afternoon, I will always remember our fun and warm welcome on the world’s roof.

We are the nine people of Korea who successfully finished climbing Island Peak in the Khumbu region. Mr Bikesh Rana and Dendi Sherpa were our guides who took charge of the main part of the guide, trekking, logistics, accommodation, food and climbing, etc.

We found the two experts were extremely reliable in every aspect of the campaign. Dendi is an optimistic, pleasuring, and brave expert who carried the campaign to realization. Bikesh is the most caring person we have ever seen before. He controlled all the minutes and times forward to the peak and backwards to the airport.

Dendi and Bikesh were the most accountable and capable due for us. Seven porters they hired were as excellent as them. So we were all happy and healthy as the campaign’s success owing to them.
We highly recommend Dendi’s climbing force and hope you and your campaign have good luck.

I enjoyed my Annapurna Sanctuary trek and the high level of service you offered. I also want to say that Tek was a fantastic guide who helped me many times during the trek and was excellent company.

Nepal Hiking also helped me with travel logistics and complications on the ground.

Nepal Hiking exceeded our expectations by far. Our guide was young but very professional, well-trained, and knowledgeable about the trail and working with clients. Likewise, our porter was friendly, hard-working, and well-cared for by the company. Any worries about logistics before the trek were quickly sequestered, and we enjoyed a wonderfully planned and executed trip.

It has already been a while since we left Nepal, but we want to let you know about our trip.
The trip has been fabulous. What a beautiful region we trekked ourselves! All the mountains, people, clouds, sunshine, colors, butterflies, donkeys, cows, etc.

Krishna was great fun to be around us. He also did a good job finding the right lodges and gave us good support and information. For example, when we had trouble carrying our bags, Krishna helped us out immediately.

Krishna gave us a lot of information about the region, the people, all the mountain names, etc., etc. Unfortunately, he did not play pool very well. He was beaten by Gem twice!!!!

We had never been to Nepal before or had indeed done any trekking. I can honestly say this was the best holiday ever and made better by Nepal Hiking. The guides, porters, accommodation and food were fabulous. We were also treated to 21 days of blue skies, sunshine, and 4 inches of snow, making a beautiful place even better. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide in Bikram. His professionalism and knowledge were outstanding. He even allowed us to beat him at cards! Also, a huge thanks to Raj, who carried our bags. The whole trip, including our 5 days in Kathmandu, will live in our memories forever, especially the generosity and hospitality of our hosts.

It was our first time in Nepal, and our choice of using Nepal Hiking wasn’t a mistake. Bhairam was great at customizing the entire trip. Our guide Tirtha was an awesome dude, very helpful and friendly! Note to mention the porters- they were friendly and nice men; we were like friends on the trip. So I don’t have any complaints because everything they set for the trip was satisfying.

The trek itself is pretty cool. Off-beaten, beautiful views with unexpected snow at the top. It was a joy to trek in the snow for the first time. Anyway, our guide, Lok, is awesome. He’s knowledgeable, does not pressure us, is very smiley, and motivates us.

We booked a Bhutan Trip through Nepal Hiking via the Internet.
They organised the trip to our wishes and welcomed us at Kathmandu airport. We stayed in a nice hotel in Thamel for one night.

All transfers from the airport to the airport were in nice cars, on time. Nepal Hiking works with an excellent agent in Bhutan (TLF holidays). They organised the perfect trip and took good care of us. We can highly recommend them for any tour/trek in Nepal or Bhutan.

My group and I did a tour with Nepal Hiking this year. Mr Bhairam Thapa replied to all my questions via email. They provided us with very good service during our trip. So I don’t hesitate to recommend this company. Specially thanks to Mr Bhairam.

We have been with Nepal Hiking for the second time now. The first time we travelled to Tibet (private tour – Lhasa – EBC – back to Nepal by a Jeep). This year we did the classic Everest Base Camp Trekking Tour and an excursion to Pokhara and Chitwan. The whole tour was awesome, and the service was excellent. Six friends chose to trek to Gokyo Lakes, Chola Pass, and Everest Base Camp. We looked at several companies, and after exchanging initial polite, informative emails, good Trip Advisor reports, and previous friends who liked their services, we chose Nepal Hiking — haven’t regretted our decision for one moment.
